Virtual Lecture - The Dock Sisters: Advocates for Woman Suffrage

Mira and Lavinia Lloyd Dock, Harrisburg natives, were well known as a conservationist and nursing reformer, respectively. But did you know that they were also ardent supports of higher education, equal employment opportunities, and suffrage for women?

The attached photo is a November 25, 1917 newspaper photo of released White House picketers wearing reproduction jail costumes at a women’s convention. Miss Levina L. Dock is standing on the left. From Helen Reily’s scrapbook in the Fort Hunter archives.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions and safety concerns, join the Friends of Fort Hunter in a virtual talk with Dr. Susan Rimby, former history and social studies educator at Shippensburg University and Founding Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Education at Lock Haven University.

Now retired, Susan will talk with us virtually about these local suffragette supporters and well known Harrisburg residents, Myra and Lavina Dock.

The lecture is free but participants must register to receive the link by email, to view the lecture. Click here to sign up. An email will be sent to you, a week prior to the lecture date, with a link and sign in instructions to view Susan’s live talk.
